East Valley residents looking for a quick place to pick up dinner have a new option in Nanay's, a cafeteria-style Filipino restaurant that opened in January.
The new spot comes courtesy of Aurea Gonzales and her two daughters, Alicia Ferrer and Aida Sembrano, who were born and raised in Pampanga, a province in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines.

The 2,100-square-foot restaurant serves a rotating daily spread of Filipino dishes in a cafeteria setting. Options often include dishes such as sisig, or fried pork belly with a mixture of spicy chiles and citrus juice, and kare-kare, a stew made with beef, eggplant, string beans, and peanut sauce.
On Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, Nanay's also serves an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet with dishes such as tapa, or thinly slices of beef cured in salt and garlic, and longanisa, a spicy and sweet pork sausage often eaten with a side of garlic fried rice and sunnyside-up eggs.
Homemade desserts include leche flan, an egg and milk custard topped with caramelized sugar, and turon, brown sugar covered spring rolls filled with fried banana and jackfruit.
