The September issue of Bon Appetit hasn't hit the streets yet, but the word straight from publisher Conde Nast is that local restaurant Noca gets a mention in Nina Elder and Andrew Knowlton's roundup of "The Country's Best Daily Specials."
About one recent Sunday special, the grilled heirloom tomato and mozzarella sandwich with green heirloom tomato gazpacho, they write, "It's hard to improve on grilled cheese with tomato soup--but that's exactly what the folks at Noca are doing. The restaurant layers red heirloom tomatoes and smoked mozzarella on the sandwich. It transforms the soup with green heirlooms--and serves it cold. The mix of flavors, textures, and colors take this classic to a new level."
Since the restaurant has a different menu every Sunday for its Simple Supper events (three-course prix fixe for $35), you won't find the sandwich there this week, although owner Eliot Wexler says it'll make an encore appearance sometime after the mag hits newsstands on August 24.
In addition, Noca has just launched a Late Simple Supper -- the same three-course Sunday menu available for $27 between 8 and 9 p.m.
