After Basha's Supermarkets' bankruptcy proceedings led to AJ's Fine Foods falling out the the CityScape lineup last year, locals have been wondering which retailer -- if any -- would step up to fill the void for a much-needed downtown grocery store at the 1.8 million square foot mixed-use project.
Today, RED Development announced that the operator of Scottsdale's Oakville Grocery has signed a lease for the westernmost block of the project, at the corner of Jefferson Street and Central Avenue. The store is set to open in September.
Inspired by the original Napa Valley Oakville Grocery, the downtown Phoenix location will feature locally made artisanal products (cheeses, charcuterie, olive oil, vinegar) as well as foods from Napa and Sonoma, California. There will also be made-to-order gourmet sandwiches and a variety of prepared foods.
