The event, hosted by Phoenix Public Market Cafe, comes with a few ground rules. Drinks must be 4-6 ounces in size, and must meld an overall thematic experience with both coffee and alcohol. Aside from those minor regulations, anything goes.

Perry Czopp, the event's organizer, views this as an opportunity for area baristas to strengthen their community ties. As he says, it will be an opportunity for "our city to explore, promote, and celebrate what... Phoenix's passionate people are capable of."

Competitors include many of our local favorites: Phoenix Public Market Cafe (duh), Ground Control, LoFi Coffee, Cortez Coffee, and Silent Flight. An unnamed representative from Tucson's Presta Coffee will also be joining the fun. Perry notes, "The winners of the competition will be dubbed best mixologists until next time!"

A cover fee of $10 at the door ($7 in advance if you register online) will allow you to taste each of these cocktails and vote for your favorite. Check it out for yourself on the Phoenix Public Market Cafe patio from 5-7 pm on Sunday, December 21st. Interested parties must be of legal drinking age, of course.
