Ex-Windy City inhabitants may recognize the name Sanfratello's; the family-style pizzeria has been serving pizzas, pastas, and dinner entrees on the south side of Chicago since the 1960s. Later this month, the restaurant will open its first Arizona location. The take-out and delivery restaurant will be located at 857 Warner Road in Gilbert.

Despite what you might expect from a Chicago pizzeria, Sanfratello's signature product isn't a deep-dish pie but rather a thin-crust "party cut" (or square cut) pizza.
The Arizona restaurant will even import its ingredients -- fresh meats and cheeses -- from Chicago to ensure the product's consistency from state to state. The restaurant prides itself on using Scamorza cheese on its pies. The cheese is "known for its better taste and higher burning point," according to Sanfratello's.
Aside from pizza the restaurant's menu also includes appetizers, salads, sandwiches, entrees, and desserts.
The Gilbert location of Sanfratello's will be the restaurant's fourth location. The original restaurant opened in 1969 on Main Street Glenwood on Chicago's south side. Since then, the restaurant has opened additional locations across the Midwest.
The restaurant will open on Saturday, January 17 and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be giveaways (including a chance to win free pizza for an entire year), free food samples, and live music provided by School of Rock Gilbert.
