As CityScape desperately tries to become an institutional Phoenix destination, few restaurants are slowly opening their doors amidst construction and a still too quiet downtown population. Scottsdale's breakfast hotspot, The Breakfast Club, is one of the brave few to try their luck. The little breakfast spot, perched next to downtown's Gold's Gym, only opened about two weeks ago, but we thought we'd give it a shot before they got too comfortable.

How's the new Breakfast Club? Find out after the jump.

The Sunny Side: The location and building are very unique. The north wall is made up completely of glass windows, giving it a very city feel. The décor consists of dark chocolate woods and mustard accents, and it's modern and clean. The design and décor really went well with the downtown, big-city location.

The menu offers a large variety of options. Patrons can go healthy or go full sugar and carb by choosing from omelets, sandwiches, traditional basics, pancakes, scrambles, and more. There is even a large side menu consisting of fruits, vegetables, and fresh-squeezed juices.

Wanting to try both the basics and the more unique, we ordered the BC Egg Sandwich as well as the Huevos Rancheros. The BC Egg Sandwich consists of egg, bacon, fontina cheese, and horseradish mayo.  We were sold on the horseradish mayo. The Huevos Rancheros included black beans, lettuce, pork green chili, and a chipotle tortilla topped with pico de gallo and pepper jack cheese.

The sandwich was delicious.  It arrived looking more like an egg pancake than a sandwich, but we were pleased with the heaping egg serving. The tangy cheese with the horseradish mayo created an extremely interesting flavor, and the bacon was crisp and savory. The fluffy scrambled egg was wrapped in a layer of cheese, which only added to the tasty egg goodness.

The Huevos Rancheros was huge and meaty and the flavor was spicy and luscious. We especially liked the fresh pico de gallo on the side. There was a lot of pork in this monster of a dish, and it was savory and well-prepared. Our only complaint is that the entire dish was a bit watery. There was literally a puddle of liquid in the tortilla. We assume this just comes with the green chili territory, but still, we would have liked it to be more drained.

Save Your Bacon: Like most new businesses, they are definitely still working out some kinks and getting settled. The wi-fi wasn't yet activated (such a tease) and their new downtown hours are not posted on the website. Even our server seemed a bit distracted, however it was 7 in the morning so we'll cut her some slack. We also were disappointed by the watery huevos.

The Check: This is a great spot to get breakfast downtown. It's fast, friendly, and comfortable, and we're excited for it to become a downtown staple. With such a large menu, the options may be hit or miss. If you go, be sure to ask your server for some suggestions.
