It's Phoestivus for the rest of us at the Downtown Phoenix Public Market from 4 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, December 5 and 12. And by "the rest of us," we mean anyone who would rather support local businesses this holiday season than shop at the big box stores.

The Third Annual Phoestivus Open-Air Market will feature 50+ vendors offering fantastic handcrafted gifts, fresh foods and flowers so you can be the hostess (or host) with the mostest, and a beer garden pouring The Phoenix Ale Brewery's exclusive Phoestivus Ale. And, it wouldn't be Phoestivus without the world's largest Phoestivus Pole, feats of strength, airing of grievances, holiday carolers, and . . . maybe a yeti?

As usual, there will be food trucks at the market, so if you get too hungry from buying specialty cookies, pies, and cheeses for your loved ones, you can stop yourself from eating your tasty presents by hitting up Short Leash Hot Dogs, Emerson Fry Bread, or Pizza People. We're crossing our fingers that The Maine Lobster Lady is there at least one of the two Wednesdays; her rolls, chowder, and salads are like an early present from Santa.

While you're searching for gifts, don't forget to pick up ingredients that will make your holiday feast taste extra special. Look for mesquite flour from Arizona Mesquite Company, local honey from Absolutely Delightful Arizona Honey, chocolate from Wei of Chocolate, dates from Montgrove Arcadia Dates, produce galore from Maya's Farm and Crooked Sky Farms, and cheese from California's Fiscalini.
