Singh Farms in Scottsdale Suspends Saturday Morning Farmers Market

The Valley has lost one of its most unique weekend attractions. As of earlier this month, Singh Farms has ended its popular Saturday morning farmers' market due to conflict with the surrounding community. 

Farm owner Ken Singh declined an interview, but had the following to say in a statement to New Times: 

"We are saddened by the current situation and the circumstances of the traffic and parking. In order to alleviate the current parking problems for the farm and the Community — the farm has decided to close the Saturday market for the remainder of the season until we can find a productive solution for all involved. We will open Friday from 3 to 7 [p.m.] until the harvest is complete.”

The decision to suspend the Saturday morning market comes after what seems like a lengthy battle with the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community. The farm is located on land leased from the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community and in posts on the Singh Farm Facebook earlier this month, the farm's operators describe issues with patrons failing to abide by no-parking signs posted on the street. 

One post from Sunday, April 17, reads in part: 

"We appreciate your support of our Saturday market but we fully understand the issue for the Community — this is their land and we all should respect their wishes. The "No Parking" signs installed on the street by the Community are the same ones on the streets where you live and work — yet some chose to totally disregard them here. We can only assume those are the same folks who disregard the signs within the farm." 

For now, the farm will be open on Friday nights from 3 to 7 p.m. Visitors are asked not to park on the street or in driveways and to use the farm's lots instead. For more information, visit the Singh Farms Facebook page.
