The 77th Annual Friendly House Tamale Dinner is tonight from 5 to 9 at Corona Ranch Rodeo Grounds.
The $15 dinner will get you two tamales, rice and beans, Pepsi products (or water) and features Fiesta Mexicana Ballet Folklorico, Mariachis, and a DJ. There will be a choice of chicken or red chile beef tamales that are being prepared all this week by El Portal Mexican Restaurant.
While Friendly House isn't serving booze, the location host, Corona Ranch Rodeo Grounds, does have a liquor license and they will be serving hard drinks at the event.
If you're wondering if you can bring the kids, the answer is yes. It will be very kid-friendly, with pinata busting, games, face painting and dance lessons after the feast.
The Tamale Dinner started in 1935 to raise funds to support the efforts of the Friendly House that supports American immigrants from 27 countries (youth, adults and seniors) with employment and training, social services and education. With this year's tamale dinner, they're hoping to raise $40,000, much of that coming from corporate sponsors like SRP, but the rest comes from regular Joes like us who chase down a good party.
