The Perch Pub & Brewery to Open February 14 in Chandler

This Valentine's Day, Valley hop-heads will have one more reason to love the Valley's brew scene: The Perch.

The new gastropub comes courtesy of craft beer aficionado James Swann, who has dealt in adult libations at spots like Chandler's SanTan Brewing Company (which he helped open), The Hungry Monk, and most recently, at Whole Foods, where he was a buyer and beer class instructor. Swann, who co-owns The Perch with partners Rebecca Lavenue and Sue Sechrest, also hosts the own online show, Adventures in Brew.

The Perch, located in a remodeled home in downtown Chandler (232 South Wall Street), will offer 25 craft beer on tap, its own in-house brews, and a selection of specialty drinks and wines.

"We're going to stay way out in left field when it comes to beer," Swann told the entrepreneurial information website Grow Southwest. "We'll have Dragonfruit Double IPA and beers with acai and pomegranate. We'll be very, very female-friendly and we'll have a strawberry beer on tap, a hard cider on tap, and a Belgian peach ale on tap."

The menu at The Perch will include sandwiches, tacos, pizza, and grill items with a Southwestern and, often, boozy twist. Dishes include a green chile pork torta with the meat cooked in Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, beer-battered fish tacos, and tequila lime shrimp.

Aptly named for its collection of caged exotic birds and rooftop patio with views of downtown Chandler, The Perch also will feature indoor seating, a lush patio courtyard, and decor touches of reclaimed wood and brick.
