If you're looking for homemade sauces, pizza dough, and bread in North Phoenix, you'll be happy to know about Villa Italia Ristorante. The new restaurant, located at 1219 East Glendale Avenue, comes courtesy of owner and chef Peter Pizzurro, a native of Palermo, Sicily.
The restaurant, which opened in December, serves lunch and dinner, offering classic Italian fare such as bruschetta, spaghetti Bolognese, and a selection of pizzas made with housemade mozzarella.

Pizzurro, who grew up in New York, has been in the restaurant business for more than three decades. The inspiration for his latest restaurant venture comes from his experiences dining in Italy's restaurants, osterias, and trattorias.
Villa Italia Ristorianti will feature made-in-house pizza dough, mozzarella, and sauces and all orders, including pizzas, will be made fresh to order.
Lunch, served Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will offer pizza by the slice, soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta, and calzones, all for under $10. Dinner options include classic Italian fare such as spaghetti, ravioli, chicken Parmesan, and homemade lasagna, in addition to dishes such as philly cheesteaks, a Mediterranean salad and burgers. Pizza options include Pizza Salami Picante with tomato sauce, mozarella, and salami; Quattro Gusti with tomato, mozzarella, mushrooms, ham, and fresh sausage; and Pizza Exotica with tomato, mozzarella, ham, and pineapple. Twelve-inch pizzas range from $12 to $16, which 16-inch pies range from $17 to $21.
