15 Favorite Spots for Late-Night Eats in Greater Phoenix

It wasn't until a few years ago that getting late-night eats in the Valley meant hitting up a 24-hour chain restaurant (Oh, boy, another Belgian Waffle Slam) or picking through the contents of your refrigerator.

Thankfully, things have changed a bit as more independent restaurants are keeping later hours for night owls in search of a late-night nosh.

Here are 15 of our favorites:

Café Ga Hyang

After 10 p.m., this Glendale restaurant feels more like a Koreatown bar, serving up karaoke and soju along with the fantastic fare until 2 a.m. every night but Sunday. Dig into popular Korean favorites such as seafood pancakes, Korean fried chicken, the stir-fry dish jap chae, or a variety of soups and stews like the spicy and seafood-heavy cham pong, a boiling pot of Korean stew with tofu called haemul soon du bu, or the refreshingly cold noodle dish naeng myun.

Citizen Public House

From chef Bernie Kantak, this contemporary restaurant of American fare in Scottsdale features a small but satisfying changing menu of late night bites every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday until 1:30 a.m. Look for favorites like The Original Chopped Salad (so popular it has its own Facebook page), heirloom popcorn with bacon fat, and a juicy signature burger. Don't miss the opportunity to pair the eats with an exceptional cocktail or two from mix master Richie Moe.

Fez

Open five days of the week until midnight and until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, this stylish spot of American eats in Central Phoenix features its full menu plus some five-dollar fare for those who aren't yet ready to call it a night. Share late night bites like chicken phyllo packets, peppadew poppers filled with goat cheese, or the Fez fry sampler. And bonus points for sipping two-for-one drinks in the new lounge area.

Four Peaks Brewing Company & Four Peaks Grill & Tap

Open until 2 a.m. daily, this Tempe institution and its new sister restaurant in north Scottsdale serve up Four Peaks' award-winning classic suds along with tasty late-night munchies like beer-battered fries, a Popper Burger with sautéed jalapeños and onion straws, and a selection of pizzas whose dough is made daily with (what else) Four Peaks ale. Another Kiltlifter? Of course.

Petite Maison

Chef James Porter's cozy French bistro in Scottsdale gets late-night delicious from 10 p.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday. Called the Staff Meal, the restaurant's talented cooks prepare an always-changing small menu (usually created that day) of dishes like mussels with white wine and thyme, escargots with roasted garlic, and pomme frites all for around eight to 12 dollars.

Jobot Coffee Shop

Once part of Conspire, this coffee and crepe shop in the Roosevelt Arts District moved into a bungalow of its own just down the street in 2010. Open until midnight Monday through Friday and 24 hours on the weekends, late nighters can enjoy a custom roast by Cartel Coffee Lab alongside sweet and savory crepe creations like smoked turkey breast, spinach, mozzarella, and pesto, and peanut butter, raspberry jam, and banana.

Noca

For those desiring a delicious start to the work week ahead, this stylish restaurant in Central Phoenix hosts a Late Sunday Supper starting at 8 to 9 p.m. Featuring new chef and ex-Chris Bianco business partner Claudio Urciuoli in the kitchen, diners can expect their three-course, $27 meal to include authentic Italian flavors along with top-notch ingredients and home made goodness. Just like mom used to make -- if she were up this late on Sunday.

Bliss/ReBAR

This comfortable local favorite in the Roosevelt Historic District is perfect for for a late-night bite post a downtown event. Open until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday and until midnight the rest of the week, patrons can enjoy a libation or signature cocktail while deciding on late-night munchies like chicken lettuce wraps, mac and cheese loaded with chicken and bacon, and fried sausage ravioli.

AZ88

Since 1988, this trendy watering hole and cafe in Old Town Scottsdale has remained one of the most reliable late-night dining spots in town. Open nightly until 12:30 a.m., the edibles are a familiar but satisfying bunch -- burgers, salads, and sandwiches. Plus, there's tasty munchies like galettes (flat breads), house made chips topped with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber, and marinated water chestnuts wrapped in bacon.

Dick's Hideaway

This is a compact, secluded spot in Central Phoenix for those in the know. A onetime spillover lounge for Richardson's, the popular restaurant that went up in smoke and then relocated up the street, serves up crazy-good New Mexican fare until midnight Tuesday through Saturday. Belly up to the bar or one of the restaurant's few tables, grab a specialty tequila or two, then order up tasty eats like Santa Fe chicken, carne adovada, and New Mexico enchiladas.

Taqueria Los Yaquis

If you're out late in Central Phoenix and hungry for cheap Mexican eats that hit the spot after a bit of late-night boozin', head over to the corner of Camelback and Seventh Ave, between the auto shop and Charlie's, and look for this mobile kitchen taqueria. Open until 2 a.m. on Sunday and until 4 a.m. the rest of the week, check out solid eats like carne asada tacos for a buck and tasty mini quesadillas filled with carne asada or pollo asado.

For those lookin' for late-night love in all the wrong places, please direct your attention to this popular Scottsdale hangout from Pavle Milic and chef Charleen Badman. Between 9 and 10 p.m. every Sunday, Badman whips up some Late Night Love of her own with a different dish each week like amazing fried chicken, lamb chorizo chilaquiles, and Asian egg noodle and chicken soup. Now who loves ya, Baby?

Nogales Hot Dog

For over 10 years, Pablo Perez has been serving up one thing at the southwest corner of 20th Street and Indian School Road: Sonoran-style hot dogs. Mesquite-smoked and bacon-wrapped, tucked into a fresh bun, and smothered in beans, mayonnaise, and chopped tomatoes, feel free to load 'em up with additional toppings. And Perez's stand is open late into the evening, making it the perfect dog house for night owls and post-bar munchers.

Cornish Pasty Co.

Open 'til midnight Monday through Saturday and with locations in Tempe and Mesa, this cool bar and eatery dedicated to the pasty (pronounced PASS-tee), the centuries-old snack created for tin miners in Cornwall, England, is the perfect spot for a late night meat-and-potatoes meal paired with a frosty beer. Baked inside a hot, flaky pastry, the pasties come in dozens of variations, from traditional (bangers and mash) to contemporary (lamb vindaloo).

Kazimierz World Wine Bar

Open nightly until 2 a.m. with the kitchen closing 15 minutes beforehand, this unmarked speakeasy-style spot of food in drink in downtown Scottsdale, pronounced Kaz-MEER-ehz, features classic and craft cocktails, global small plates, and over 2000 wines. Choose from plates of artisan cheese, Egyptian flatbreads, and snacks such as Indonesian chicken kabobs and street tacos with braised pork. Hiding out during the evening hours never tasted so good.
