There's going to be a gastronomical throw-down tonight in Gilbert, at Rania's Kabob Grill. The restaurant is hosting the latest installment of the Chef Off series, which pits two East Valley chefs against each other in a competition to win over diners and take home the title of Chef Off champ. In this week's event Rania's chef Bank Foley, collaborating with owners Shookria and Abdul Ansari, will be put up against current champ, chef John Wong. Each will create three courses to be paired with the same three winea; diners will get to vote for which dish paired better. The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and costs $55. The Clever Koi Wednesday, October 1

On Wednesday Clever Koi will launch their new $5 BYOB lunch menu. The midday dining option lets diners build their own bowl of noodles, chow mein, or rice starting at $5. You'll pick your choice of base along with a flavor of broth (pork, dashi, or chicken) and then customize the meal with add-ons such as pork belly, lemongrass chicken, or duck for $3 a piece or fresh-chopped veggies such as bok choy, snow peas, and hearts of palm $1 for each. Additional toppings including egg, kimchee, or pickled ginger can also be added for $.50 each. The BYOB menu is available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting October 1.

T. Cook's Wednesday, October 1

And Clever Koi isn't the only one with a new fall lunch menu. Starting on Wednesday T. Cook's at the Royal Palms will also be starting a new lunch program. This restaurant is going the speedy route with their Power Lunch Hour menu, a $24 prix-fixe menu that includes a start and an entree. Chef Paul McCabe's limited lunch menu includes options such as a Chicken Panini (rotisserie chicken, crispy prosciutto, watercress, and lemon aioli) and Chopped Vegetable Salad (vegetables from local farmers, local honey, and pistou vinaigrette). Best of all T. Cook's in guarenteeing you'll get in and out in an hour or less -- and is also offering complimentary valet with car-side service upon departure between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Taste of the Biltmore Thursday, October 2

Head to the National Bank of Arizona Biltmore Corporate Center this Thursday to partake in the 8th annual Taste of the Biltmore event. The culinary fest will feature Biltmore-area restaurants including Donovan's Steak & Chop House, The Capital Grille, Season's 52, True Food Kitchen, Zinburger, The Adobe, and others. Tickets, which start at $45, include food and drink and proceeds from the event will go to Act One, "an organization that opens the doors to Arizona's performing arts and cultural destinations through two special programs, field trips and Culture Passes." mod•i•fy Friday, October 3

Natural chef Felicia Ruiz, who you might remember from Lola Tapas, is launching a new series called Friday Rituals this week at mod•i•fy in Scottsdale. The globally-inspired series will "celebrate the rituals of food, movement, and community across the globe and drawing inspiration from regions of India, Brazil, Southeast Asia, and the Caribbean." This week's event will focus on Brazillian ritual and will include opening tea, an all-levels yoga class, followed by healthy, plant- based dishes prepared and shared by chef Ruiz.
