Cowboy Ciao Tuesday, January 21

The next installment of Cowboy Ciao's Sommelier Showdown will mean the "Polka Kings" will go head-to-head in a battle of the bottles. And the event also will bring one of Scottsdale's best-known chefs to the kitchen: Petite Maison's James Porter. On Tuesday, Peter Kasperski of Cowboy Ciao and Chris Kemspski, John Galasieski, Bill Williams-ki (all of whom are from Southern Wine & Spirits) will join forces with "honorary Polka King, Chef James Porter" to offer seven courses, four cocktails, 14 wine samplings, and one memorable experience. Humble Pie Tuesday, January 21

Craving pizza this week? Then you'll want to head to one of the six Valley locations of Humble Pie, where all pizzas will be half-price on Tuesday. No, it's not just your lucky day. It's the locally owned pizza chain's six-year anniversary. You can find Humble Pie at Desert Ridge, Hilton Village, Kierland Village, and Stetson Village, as well as in Central Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Peoria. The half-off deal is available all day for dine-in only.

Taco Haus Tuesday, January 21

Chef Payton Curry already has proved his ability to please the Scottsdale masses with housemade sausages and other German fare with Brat Haus, the Old Town brewhouse and eatery. Next week, he'll take things down south when he opens Taco Haus, his newest collaboration with restaurateur and co-owner Dave Andrea. The restaurant, located at 7318 East Shea Boulevard, will offer Latin inspired cuisine including tacos, ceviche, whole rotisserie chickens, and tableside margaritas. Pie Perfection! at The Simple Farm Thursday, January 23

Sure, she's already shared a few of her tips for making the best pie ever. But if you're a more hands-on learner, then you can head to The Simple Farm this Thursday, when Chow Bella contributor and local pastry chef Rachel Miller will be teaching a pie-making class. The 90-minute workshop will begin at 9:30 a.m. and attendees will learn "ins and outs of pie crust and some handy tips to help take your pies to the next level." Barrel Grill & Modern Saloon Friday January 24

This Friday, Barrel Grill & Modern Saloon in Peoria is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a champagne toast and more. Head to the neighborhood spot at 7 p.m. to raise a glass of bubbly and get in on cowboy boot cake, country music, and prizes. The bar and grill, which opened in January 2013, serves a wide selection of craft cocktails, beer, and wine and food including prime rib sliders, baby back ribs, and fruit cobbler skillet a la mode.
