Caffe Boa Wednesday, February 26
Prior to hitting Natural Winemaker's Week in New York City next week, two organic winemakers from Slovenia will hold a tasting for the public Wednesday at Caffe Boa in Tempe. The Rojac Family Winery and and Emil Tavčar, both certified organic winemakers, will be at the restaurant to sample wines and answer questions about their organic products and processes. Guests will sample eight wines for a $10 cover charge, and small bites will be available. The event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cover charge also can be applied to a dinner bill, and bottles of wine will be on sale for 25 percent off. For more information, call 480-968-9112.
ASU Lunch Food Truck Court
Every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Valley food trucks gather in Tempe for ASU Lunch, a mobile food truck court featuring a handful of trucks. This week you'll be able to choose from: Mojo Bowl, Aji Mobile Foods, Burgers Amore, Hey Joe, Q UP bbq, Emerson Fry Bread, Short Leash Hot Dogs, Mamma Toledos pie, Pizza People, and Satay Hut. The trucks will be located at the southwest corner of Forest and 6th Streets, near ASU's Tempe campus.
Super Chunk Sweets & Treats Thursday, February 27
Every Thursday, pastry chef Country Velador keeps her sweet shop Super Chunk Sweets and Treats open extra late to host Dark Side of the Moon Pie, in conjunction with Scottsdale's weekly art walk. Each week features a different pie available by the slice for $5, and the restaurant will be rocking out to a mix of Pink Floyd, classic rock, New Wave 80's classics, and underground indie music. The event goes from 6 to 9 p.m., and while you're there, don't miss her handmade caramels, black licorice, and, of course, her signature caramel corn. Barb's Bakery
Fat Tuesday is almost here, which means you don't have much time left to celebrate Carnival. If a king cake is part of your party plans (which it should be!), then you should know that there are several Phoenix-area bakeries willing to make one for you. Barb's Bakery is known for its extravagant king cakes, which come in two sizes and four flavors. The cakes come with green, purple, white, and gold frosting, beads, and, of course, a baby figurine baked inside the cake. A regular king cake serves between 10 and 16 people and costs $25.95, while a Royale king cake serves between 20 and 24 people and costs $39.75.
