The 67th Annual Golden Globes will air this evening on NBC.

The fashion misfires, the bizarre acceptance speeches, and the stage exit stumbles - we relish the opportunity to watch the beautiful people at their best and worst.

With Julie & Julia nominated for Best Picture in the Music or Comedy category, we might be tempted to tackle a Julia Child-worthy spread of appetizers, but this is the Golden Globes, really just a warm up to the Academy Awards, so we're opting to go low key and stick with cocktails.

To enhance our awards viewing pleasure, we'll be mixing up this simple French inspired gold themed cocktail from the archives of the now shuttered Gourmet Magazine

The drink gets its golden hue from the apple concentrate and the Calvados, which is a French apple brandy.  The spirit is produced in the Normandy region of France, where it is distilled from apples.  It is not unusual for producers to use over 100 varieties of apples during processing.  The result is a cider inspired liquor perfect as an aperitif or, as in our cocktail, to add a complex rich flavor to a mixed drink.

The complexity and French lineage of our special ingredient make this the perfect drink to sip while watching to see the flick based on Julia Child's revolutionary French cookbook takes the win.

The recipe:

• 1/2 cup vodka
• 1/4 cup thawed frozen apple juice concentrate
• 4 teaspoons Calvados
• 4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

Combine ingredients, add ice, shake, and settle in for the spectacle!
