What We Bought: If you're looking for fresh fruits and veggies straight from the farm, this is your new favorite market. With Sri's Fruits and Vegetables, Taste of Paradise, Crooked Sky Farms, and On the Vine being just some of the great producers to choose from, we found lots of different options here, from tatsoi and purple kohlrabi to kumquats and sunflower shoots. Plus, you can pick up your Chow Locally weekly box of farm-fresh goodies at this market, too.
Of course, we can't subsist on raw veggies and fruits alone, we grabbed a bite of cooked food to eat while we were at the market. First, we picked up an AZ Food Crafters bacon, egg, and cheese hand pie for $4. The flaky, buttery crust and warm breakfast-y insides provided the perfect start to our market eats. Then we had to have a plum galette ($5) because the fresh plums at the It's a Divine Bakery stand just looked too good to pass up.
What We Skipped: We've never been big on pricey holistic cure-alls, so we decided to pass up the $10-an-ounce tinctures from SW Herb Shop and Gathering Place. We also decided we could live without Carol's Delectables' garlic jelly ($6). We've always said the more garlic the better, but this seemed a little much to us. Imagine the garlic breath!
What We're Still Lusting Over: It might seem crazy to spend $25 on a jar of mulberries imported from Asia, but we love mulberries, and the guys at Fishhuggers' booth assured us that they're hard to find locally. If only we had $25 to spend on a jar of mulberries. We also decided to skip Fossil Creek Creamery's goat milk fudge ($7), but our friend bought some, and we've been regretting not picking some up for ourselves after getting a taste.
We've seen Matcha Martketplace at most other local markets, and it's always sampling its matcha-infused oatmeal. We actually tried it this time, and it's well worth the $8 per bag, especially the blueberry coconut flavor. Maybe we'll actually buy it the next time we go to the market.
