For fans of America's Taco Shop, the casual, counter-service Mexican eatery from America Corrales and husband Terry Bortin, come this fall, there will be one more location in which to pop in for what the restaurant's slogan says is "the home of the greatest carne asada in the Valley."
In Old Town, at 7001 East First Avenue (First Avenue and North Goldwater Boulevard), America's newest restaurant will join three others, in Central Phoenix's Coronado District, the city's Melrose District, and near Arizona State University in Tempe.
And since America's Tacos has a relationship with Kahala, a Scottsdale-based company "dedicated to the franchising, development, and marketing of quick-service restaurants" -- and whose clients include Cold Stone Creamery, Blimpie, and Samurai Sam's -- is the new America's Taco Shop (like the one in the Arizona Mills Mall) a franchise?

According to Jean Smoke, a representative for Kahala, America and Terry Bortin own the original three locations and will own the new Old Town location as well.
"Kahala does have a relationship with ATS and is thrilled to be able to work with entrepreneurs such as America and Terry Bortin," Smoke says. "They are very much involved in the future development of the brand, and we are honored to be able to work so closely with them."
