April Restaurant Openings and Closings in Metro Phoenix

Though we're just around the corner from summer and the time of year when things tend to slow down in the restaurant industry, there's been no sign so far that our local restaurateurs and chefs plan on taking a break. Last month we saw more than a dozen new restaurants open around town including the ambitious DeSoto Central Market in downtown Phoenix and a handful east Valley spots including an African restaurant and a new location of the popular Fractured Prune doughnut chain.

  • DeSoto Central Market, Phoenix
  • From our First Taste, "Like a little puppy that hasn't quite grown into its paws (really cute, but kind of awkward), DeSoto Central Market still has some growing up to do. But with some small tweaks and a full roster of restaurant vendors, we're still hopeful this could become the gathering place that downtown has always wanted."

  • Hogs N Hops BBQ, Scottsdale
  • "Hogs N Hops BBQ, located at 8777 N. Scottsdale Road, serves 'regional style barbecue' such as brisket, pulled pork, and ribs."

  • The Ivy, Chandler
  • The new restaurant opened at 1890 W. Germann Road in Chandler and serves Mediterranean food and cocktails.

  • Corduroy, Phoenix
  • "Tom Jetland and the team behind such popular mid/downtown spots as Fez, Switch, and Pizza People Pub have added a stylish new restaurant to their growing group. And with a menu dominated by globally inspired small plates, the new addition, called Corduroy, gives neighborhood diners plenty of new dishes to try."

  • Noodles & Company,Tempe
  • The fast-casual pasta restaurant opened its first location in Arizona last month at Tempe Marketplace.

    Openings continued...

  • Songbird Coffee & Tea House, Phoenix (relocated)

  • Max's Mukhaase, Mesa
  • Located at 1245 W. Guadalupe Road in Mesa, this restaurant serves an affordable menu of African dishes including goat stew, fried yam, and sphe bolg (minced beef with spaghetti and tomatoes).

  • Sorso Wine Room, Scottsdale
  • "The 2,515-square-foot Sorso Wine Room features a 32-bottle WineEmotion dispensing system that let's customers taste their way through the bar's selection of wines. The wines featured in the dispensing system will be an ever-changing selection sourced from all over the world."

  • Cibo e Vino, Scottsdale (reopened)

  • Fractured Prune, Tempe
  • The doughnut chain opened its latest Arizona location inside the University House near Arizona State University's Tempe campus. It features a takeout window that's open late.
