Hungry for your early morning serving of food news, with no preservatives or additives?

Coffee Party!

We broke the bad news last week -- Old Town Scottsdale's Sola Coffee Bar had called it a day, turned off the espresso machines,  shut their doors -- for good. Then we told you the good news --   - it's now the next Cartel Coffee Lab. After the Cartel folks caught wind of Sola's impending demise, they swooped in and saved the day. Hooray! Celebrate Cartel's fourth location tomorrow night at their grand opening party. Starting at 7 p.m., it's free beer, snacks from the Cartel kitchen and, of course, free Cartel coffee for everyone who stops by to check out the new place.  Seriously, free coffee and beer -- why would you miss this?

Could anything possibly be more decadent then brownies topped with squares of chocolate raspberry Ghirardelli? Actually, yes. Take those same squares and bake them in the middle of said brownie. We're not joking. Check out Gingerbread Bagel's recipe complete with photos here

Keep Phoenix New Times Free... Since we started Phoenix New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Phoenix, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
