Support the independent voice of Phoenix and help keep the future of New Times free.

"Cupcake smack down" is the prominent theme on the twitter account for Cupcake Love-In, posted this week in sync with the launch of a Valley culinary event celebrating sweet treats.

Our Zach Fowle -- Phoenix darling of eating contestants and author of our own Feast of Fury series -- says game on!

The event, baked up by Kelly Garcia, Butter and Me Cupcakery and Tracy Dempsey, Tracy Dempsey Originals, will be held at The Hotel Valley Ho on October 10.

Kelly and Tracy have been working since late spring to create an event featuring the work of professional bakers and pastry chefs who are often overlooked in other culinary festivals. Add to the menu of all-you-can-eat cupcakes a decorating station for kids, a cupcake eating contest, juried cupcake competition, raffles and prizes -- with proceeds going to charity.

(Get the details of which charities will benefit and who will be baking after the jump.)

The event is easily affordable, tickets are $10.00, children 6 yrs and younger free. For your ten bucks, you can eat your way through the culinary confections created by local professional bakers and pastry chefs. Sugar Buzz!

Joining Butter and Me Cupcakery and Tracy Dempsey Originals are Honeymoon Sweets, Liberty Market, Scratch Bakery, Posh, Gluten Free Creations and Ruthie's Sweet Nothings (sugar free and no sugar added). list of participants Which of the participants will win the Most Outrageous? Best Savory? Best use of Secret Ingredient? Best in Show? Best Frosting? Although there is a line-up of industry judges, we hope attendees get to vote, too!

100% of the ticket sales and a portion of the total proceeds from Cupcake Love-In will benefit Singleton Moms, a local non-profit, assisting single mothers battling cancer and Safe Haven, a no-kill animal shelter. Each participating business will be donating a gift basket for the raffle along with other supporting sponsors and donors. Other participant and volunteer opportunities are available, use the contact info page of the Cupcake Love web site for information. Peace+Love+Cupcakes!
