Popcorn Alternative: Miso Butter Popcorn with Black Sesame and Wasabi Peas

Entrée: Udon in White Miso Soup with Egg and Fish Cake

Beverage: Japanese Beer and Sake

Film Breakdown: Inspired by his own dreams and memories, Kurosawa's Dreams, one of his final films, is a visual masterpiece. Each of the eight vignettes has a distinct style that highlights both the natural beauty and cultural traditions of Japan. The segments "Sunshine Through the Rain" and "And The Peach Orchard" are exceptionally stunning. American director Martin Scorsese plays Vincent Van Gogh in the story, "Crows". Both Netflix and Blockbuster carry this film and others by Kursawa.

Make it a Double Feature: Tampopo (1985) A young Ken Watanabe stars in this Japanese comedy about a pair of truckdrivers who help save a widow's noodle shop. Tampopo is a little difficult to find, but it is one of the best food movies of all time, in this writer's opinion.
