After a day chained to the computer, eating nothing but carbs -- pretzels and cookies and candy, oh my! -- my friend's dinner invitation to Maizie's sounded like exactly what I needed.

As much as I enjoy the salads here, I was haunted by the recollection of my previous visit, when a friend ordered an inside out burger and I was insanely envious. And after a day of carb-crashing, I wanted protein.

So I went with the inside out "bleu burger," an enormous half-pound monster. It might look plain, but the secret is the gooey blue cheese and bacon stuffed inside the meat. When you bite into it, it's deliciously messy. (I drizzled some buffalo sauce on it for extra spice and sloppy goodness.) The skin-on fries were crisp, with fluffy potato middles.

My friend's red chile beef enchilada was a nice specimen as well -- the sauce was slightly fiery but had a rich, sweet pepper flavor. Gratefully, it wasn't smothered with too much cheese. This was a nightly special, but I'd be happy to see it as a permanent menu addition.
