Member of East Valley's De La Cruz Family Opening Mexican Restaurant in Central Phoenix

Obed de la Cruz of the de la Cruz family, a name synonymous with Mexican food in the East Valley, is bringing his family's recipes to Central Phoenix in the form of a new restaurant.

Obed -- whose family owns El Sol Mexican Cafe & Bakery and El Zocalo Mexican Grill (which he operates) in Chandler and Mangos Mexican Cafe and De la Cruz Bistro in Mesa -- has taken over 2333 East Osborn Road, formerly Linda's on Osborn, and plans to open a Mexican restaurant called Méjico this fall.

De la Cruz is completely remodeling the defunct Linda's on Osborn (the nearly 20-year-old eatery from Linda McQuillan which shuttered this spring), and tells me he won't be ready to open until October or November of this year.

De la Cruz says the food at Méjico mostly will be indicative of the cuisine of northern Mexico and that the dishes will be created with recipes handed down in his family.
