Support the independent voice of Phoenix and help keep the future of New Times free.
Attention vending machine world: prepare to have your collective coin-op slots blown off. PepsiCo has announced it's set to launch a line of "next generation" social vending machines.
The new machines will allow folks to connect with friends and gift them drinks with the push of a (touchscreen) button.
A press release explains, "Using digital technology, PepsiCo's Social Vending System enables any user to gift a friend by selecting a beverage and entering the recipient's name, mobile number and a personalized text message."
There's also a feature called "Random Acts of Refreshment" which lets people purchase drinks for strangers around the world.
Is Pepsi's line of "Next Generation" social vending machines the next new thing or just one more social-something stroke-fest? Would you use one? Let us know!
