As of last week downtown Scottsdale has a stylish, new hangout for coffee and craft beer fans.
Sip Coffee and Beer House, located at 3617 North Goldwater Road, is now open and serving a small menu of breakfast and lunch items, caffeinated drinks from Cartel coffee, craft beer, wine, and a menu of cocktails written by a certain well-known mixologist. The coffee and beer house will be hosting a grand opening event today from 6 p.m. to close, offering live piano at 7 p.m. and food/drink specials all night long.

The coffeehouse, owned by Tida and Travis Radevski, is a part of the new Creative Center of Scottsdale, a redevelopment project involving three buildings on the west side of Scottsdale Road just north of Osborn Road. Once construction is complete -- the two other buildings are still under construction -- Sip will be connected to its chef's nearby restaurant, Brat Haus, via a back patio area.
Chef Payton Curry has created a small menu of breakfast and lunch items for Sip, which will also offer a daily selection of pastries. Food options include three sandwiches (a BLT, chicken salad, and an Italian Grinder), a hummus plate, two salads (lentil and kale), a breakfast burrito and frittata, and the same house made pretzels served at Brat Haus.
We tried the breakfast frittata, which made for a very satisfying light meal. It features local eggs, homemade bacon, spinach Swiss cheese, pesto, and cream sauce, all topped with a handful of greens.
On the drinks side there are coffee and espresso drinks that feature Cartel beans -- more interestingly, Sip is the first place to serve Cartel's iced toddy on tap. Total, Sip has 22 taps with 17 dedicated to different craft beers and the rest used for wine. Look for names like Papago Orange Blossom, Nitro Left Hand Milk Stout, Epic Santa Cruz Brown Ale, and Cartel Desert Pale Ale on the Sip beer menu.
You'll also be able to order from a small but promising cocktail menu written by mixologist Jason Asher. The drink list includes creations such as the "Maid in AZ" with AZ Desert Dry Gin, cucumber, mint, and freshly pressed lime and the "Seductive Sip" with Copper City Rum, AZ Bitters Lab Hopp'd Bitters, Cardamaro, Punt e Mes and Orange Peel.
Tida Radevski says the cocktail menu will be "all you can get," at Sip -- as in you can't order a vodka tonic or rum and coke at this spot. (Not that it sounds like we'd want to.)
As for the space, it's a sunny open hangout with hand picked accent items like ornate chalkboards, a vintage car door, and large floral arrangements. Customers will be able to enjoy cozy sitting areas with sitting chairs or a long bar with windows that overlook Scottsdale Road. There's also a spacious front patio, a dining area, and available Wifi. The only problem will be the parking situation -- there's only a handful of spots in front of Sip. More parking is available across the street in the Staples/Walgreens parking lot.
