This photo, shared by one of my food spies, says it all: Stan's Metro Deli is closed, at least temporarily. The restaurant's voicemail is full.
As any longtime reader of Chow Bella knows, "temporary" restaurant closures usually strike me as dubious, if only because of the track record. Remember Sucker Punch Sally's "temporary" closure for renovations?
Mill Avenue has been on an upswing in general, but the closure of Stan's -- even if it's only temporary -- is odd. The place
just opened in August, a comeback of a longtime Tempe institution that many locals fondly remember from the '90s. What went wrong?
