How can you add pizza to a gelato spot and still call it The Gelato Spot?

That question was surely on the minds of the owners of this Old Town Scottsdale creamery (with three other locations in the Valley) when they installed a wood-fired pizza oven on the premises last fall. At that time, with no exterior signage, letting customers know about the selection of thin-crust Neapolitan-style pies was strictly word-of-mouth. But now, word seems to be getting out and changes are underway.

First off, the name.

A friendly store manager at the location told me that signage for The Gelato Spot's new name, The G-Spot, with the subhead, gelato and wood-fired pizza, would be going up in the next few weeks. In addition, the location is adding an upstairs, full-service dining area complete with a bar. The new space should be ready by late summer or fall.

Are there plans to turn other locations into pizza and gelato serving G-Spots? I'm told the owners are thinking about making the Biltmore location on Camelback Road into a G-Spot as well.

Stay tuned for details.
