Renegade by MOD
Renedage by MOD, the risk-taking restaurant opened by Kai's former executive chef Michael O'Dowd, is now open for lunch and is offering a selection of items for $5 or less -- a pretty sweet deal for such innovative eats. Items on the Less Lunch Selections menu include MOD Sloppy Joes, Pork Chile Stew with Mexican Cheeses, Red Inca Quinoa Salad with Avocado & Caramelized Pineapple, Duck Fat Fries and Kettle Chips. There's also a new lunch menu, which features bites such as Naughty Nachos with homemade tortilla chips, spicy ground Angus beef, Mexican cheeses, tomatoes, lettuce, Iitoi onions, salsa and chipotle sour cream ($12) or Blackened Ahi Tuna Poke with wonton crisps ($15). Lunch is available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Residents of north Scottsdale can satisfy their cravings for Mexican food inspired by San Miguel de Allende at the new location of Los Somberos, which opened on Friday. The second location will offer all the same favorites that chef Azucena Tovar has been serving for nearly two decades including alcaparrando (baby back ribs on a bed of shredded chicken with caper-tomatillo sauce) and a pork chop with a sweet-citrus tamarind mole. You'll still be able to get her 10-course, two-person tasting menum as well as the ever-popular to-go packs of gourmet hand-rolled holiday tamales. On the drinks side expect an expanded bar with 50 premium tequilas and mezcals, 12 kinds of margaritas, and Mexican and artisan beers.
