This is what it looks like when you successfully spell “assassin.”
How do you spell “fun”? Besides the obvious answer of combining “f,” “u,” and “n,” you could gather a group of educated folk, including local wordsmiths and journalists, together and see who’s got the mettle and the smarts to correctly spell some rather complicated words.

Such was the case on Wednesday, October 14, inside The Newton, where the Arizona chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association held its inaugural Spelling Bee for Adults where more than a dozen competitors tested their knowledge by attempting to correctly spell an increasingly difficult selection of words as “flourishing,” “camaraderie,” and “relevancy” for prizes and bragging rights.
