Even though Coachella and Easter weekend sucked a lot of oxygen out of the local concert scene, there were plenty of other music happenings to occupy your weekend. Every second Friday of the month, Betty Blackheart throws Cupcake!, a fetish-themed dance party with all-female DJs spinning darkwave, EDM, and industrial, at The Rogue in Scottsdale. Sara Avery, owner of the kitschy jewelry company Later Operator, and her husband, Ryan, threw a pop-up shop at The Coronado on Saturday. Ryan, from Related Records, spun vinyl, and The Coronado even created a special drink for the occasion: The Rainbow Soda Pop-Up. Photos by Mello Jello.
