These days, serious stage drama is scarcer than hen's teeth. Fortunately, when Space 55 Theatre isn't bringing the pants-wetting funny, the downtown troupe offers moving alternatives to musicals, farces, and sitting at home with CSI. At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, it opens a comfort-zone-busting trifecta: Phillip E. Schmeidl's The Bakers of Lakewood. Presented in conjunction with New York City’s Actors Studio, Bakers is a new play, which has us trembling already. It's about dysfunctional people in Ohio: Score! And it features Patti Hannon from the Late Night Catechism series. Sure, Hannon's funny, but imagine she's your miserable, manipulative mom, and you're trying to finally move out of the house (as is the case in Bakers). Brrrr.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Nov. 3. Continues through Nov. 25, 2009
