The Valley’s nightlife landscape was as tumultuous and volatile as ever in 2010, as more than a dozen bars and clubs came and went over the past 12 months. But while heavy hitters such as Club Rain or Forbidden blinked out of existence, downtown Phoenix’s Bar Smith, 130 East Washington Street, managed to survive and thrive. The bi-level beat shack’s success is due in part to the new management team (which includes bartender Chase Crain and DJ Sean “Senbad” Badger), who took over during the summer and helped the joint become a major hot spot by booking ultra-popular dance nights like Sticky Fingers and The Scenario. Many of the DJs who work these hipster hullabaloos are scheduled to spin during the Adios Mother Fucker New Year’s Eve Massive on Friday, December 31, at Bar Smith. The lineup includes the likes of William Fucking Reed, 2ToneDisco, Austin Head, and BC/AD, as well as a performance by local faves Daft Punk’d. The party runs from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. the next day, and admission is $20. Call 602-229-1265.
