Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is pretty much the epitome of a rock 'n' roll veteran. The dude doesn't coast despite having been in two of the biggest bands of the '90s. Wasting Light, the latest album from the Foos, finds the group joined by on-again, off-again guitarist Pat Smear, produced by Nevermind's Butch Vig, and recorded on analog tape in Grohl's home studio. It's not only one of the top rock albums of the year, but also the heaviest, most emotional album the band has issued. Grohl has worked hard for the success, playing back-to-back sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium with legends John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page and devoting time behind the drum kit to The Killing Joke, Them Crooked Vultures, and Queens of the Stone Age. But Grohl's heart has always belonged to Foo Fighters. He said it best: "There's poetry in being the band that can sell out Wembley but also makes a record in a garage."
