Native Route

In November, Tempe-based artist and ASU Professor Mary Hood received enough funding through Kickstarter to launch "Map(ing) 2013," the third biennial that will take over Arizona State University's Night Gallery in January. Hood writes that the project, established in 2009, investigates the personal and cultural histories of Native American and Indigenous artists.

More About

As part of the project, Hood invites five artists -- Maxx Stevens (Seminole/Mvscogee), Nicholas Galanin (Tlingit/Aleut), Sonya Kelliher-Combs (Inupiaq/Athabaskan), Rowan Harrison, (Navajo/Pueblo of Isleta), and Thomas Greyeyes (Navajo) -- to explore their cultural histories and work collaboratively with the university's printmaking program to create work for public exhibition. While the project is underway, the artists create limited-edition prints for exhibition, host a moderated forum, and work together.

Tuesdays-Sundays, 6-9 p.m. Starts: Jan. 4. Continues through Jan. 27, 2013
