A few years ago in Phoenix, trucks were the trendiest thing in food. It seemed like everyone was trying to start up a mobile eatery hawking anything from burgers to ramen. But owning and operating a food truck is harder than it looks, and many have since come and gone.

The good news is longstanding trucks like Jamburritos, Liberty’s Biscuits, Lucha Libre, and more have continued to find ways to stay relevant in spite of the fall off of the food truck trend. Plus newcomers like Hot Mess Buns (that's right, we've got a cinnamon roll truck, people) continue to keep the local food truck scene interesting and relevant. So to make sure you're still up on the food truck scene, here are five places in the Valley where you can find them.

Gilbert Food Truck Friday
Location: 385 N. Gilbert Road, Gilbert
Time: 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday
Website: www.facebook.com/gilbertfoodcourt

In recent years, Gilbert's Food Truck Friday event has become one of the major players in the food truck scene. Located near downtown Gilbert, this event's in the middle of a rapidly expanding food hub.

The food court each Friday features anywhere from six to 10 different food trucks that offer some creative culinary creations. There’s not a lot that you can’t try here — from Aioli Gourmet Burger’s signature Aioli burger to something simple like a refreshing watermelon salad from Local Lunchbox AZ. Try the new Hot Mess Buns truck, which serves warm cinnamon rolls topped with Captain Crunch cereal.

Ahwatukee Eats delivers a solid way to spend your Saturday afternoon. Unplug and leave your cell phones in the car. Between the food, community, and atmosphere you'll forget it's even there.

Ahwatukee Eats
Location: 4700 E. Warner Road, Phoenix
Time: 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday
Website: www.facebook.com/ahwatukeeeats

This food truck event is relatively new, although you would hardly know it considering the following its already gained. Ahwatukee Eats is an example of something being created in response to community interest. Initially a lunchtime event, it grew to an evening feature during summer by drawing crowds from all over the Valley. In a short time, it has proved to be great experience for family and friends.

Ahwatukee Eats capitalizes on the idea of an experience. Most people that attend stay awhile. It’s common to see people carrying lawn chairs and blankets in search of the perfect place to park it. Between courses, people to break out into a game of catch or frisbee.

Food Truck Caravan
Location: Fifth Avenue and Goldwater, Scottsdale
Time: 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday
Website: www.foodtruckcaravan.com

Held in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, Food Truck Caravan offers a break from the area's typical high-end dining experiences. With local music and picnic tables set up on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Goldwater, the environment and people echo a feeling of comfort and relaxation. It’s very much like going to a BBQ in a friend’s backyard. You’re eating great food, having conversations with strangers that become friends by the end of the night, and leave looking forward to next week’s food lineup.

With up to 15 different food trucks in the event's rotation, each week means a new set of trucks and menus to dive into. Get there early, though, because it gets crowded.
