Tempe’s Freedom nightclub has almost run its course — the dance music mecca closes after a Memorial Day blowout — but there’s still time for a couple more Kind Fridays. This Friday, May 21, South American progressive house DJ Hernan Cattaneo stops in to get your collective asses shaking.
Progressive house has seen better days. It’s a flooded genre with few new ideas, but Cattaneo is known as one of the rare fresh voices dropping tracks. In the mid-’90s, Cattaneo blew up in his hometown of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and attracted the attention of über-DJ Paul Oakenfold, which quickly led him to the world stage. This year, he mixed the latest release in Renaissance’s Master Series to wide acclaim. Tickets to Friday night’s show are $5 in advance, $5 at the door before 10:30 p.m., and $10 after 10:30 p.m.
