We went on a two-mile hike the other day to snap a photo of one measly petroglyph. Then, we felt totally gypped when we found out that the Deer Valley Rock Art Center has 1,500 freakin’ petroglyphs and just a quarter-mile trek to see them.
The Center features the largest concentration of rock engravings in the Valley. (Native Americans made the masses of petroglyphs, a Phoenix Point of Pride, between 800 and 5,000 years ago.) Managed by the archaeology program at ASU, the Center provides Twilight Tours with knowledgeable educators who will tell visitors all the things they want to know about petroglyphs, archaeology, desert plants, animals, and Native American cultures.
