Sure, Jesus wept. But La Llorona, the crying woman of Mexican folklore, was doomed to weep for all eternity. Top that.
The legend goes that Miss Thing’s lot in life came as a result of having drowned her own children after one of her boyfriends dumped her. (Who wouldn’t cry?) It’s a fable that playwright Carlos Manuel has folded into Lloronas, a story of a woman named Marisela, whose child has been abducted. Her suffering conjures up the legendary La Llorona, and the pair consider the pain and grief of losing someone you love.
This Teatro Bravo production is directed by Fernando Teson.
