We were born on the wrong side of the tracks in Yahoo, Texas, and have spent every subsequent day trying to live it down. We drink wine, appreciate art, have offspring who say “please” and “thank you,” and drive a girlie-man hybrid car to help the environment. For 49 weeks a year, we’re golden. Then the Arizona Exposition & State Fair comes back around, and we start talkin’ shit like “dang” and “y’all” and scratchin’ our balls a lot.
Dang, y’all, why fight it? We’ve all got a little trash in the compactor, so let your genetic detritus shine forth daily (’ceptin’ Mondays) through November 8 at the Fairgrounds. This week’s white-trash highlights include:
The Black Crowes at The Vet, tonight at 7.
Figure 8 Racing, 7 nightly Friday through Sunday.
Phoenix, make your New Year’s Resolution Count!
We’re $12,000 away from reaching our $30,000 year-end fundraising goal. Your support could be what pushes us over the top. If our work has kept you informed, helped you understand a complex issue, or better connected you to your community, please consider making a contribution today.
Village Inn Pie Eating Contest, 1 p.m. Saturday.
NWA Lucha Libre Wrestling Showcase, 5 p.m. Sunday.
Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, daily.
And don’t forget the Fair food; this year’s “extreme” vittles include chocolate-covered bacon, grasshoppers on a stick, and deep-fried tiramisu.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 22. Continues through Oct. 28, 2009
