Take the official bio of Suzanne Westenhoefer, America’s first openly gay comedian. Her 1994 HBO special – which earned a Cable Ace Award nomination — was the first by a lesbian. She was the first “out” lesbian to perform on Letterman. And boldly going where few straight comics dare, she works predominantly unscripted.
