Who would evict three old ladies from their Sun City condominium during the holiday season? In Space 55’s production of A Bloody Mary Christmas land developers and the housing association want to kick post-menopausal malcontents Blanche, Mabel and Bertha to the curb. With loud sweaters and lewd jokes, the tomato juice and vodka swigging seniors are played by Valley actresses Shawna Franks, Stacey Reed and Jacque Arend.
The title characters arose like cranky, geriatric Aphrodites from Space 55’s “7 Minutes In” series as a loosely written improv sketch. That’s why Reed told Phoenix New Times, “I’m excited there’s a plot!” Collaborating playwright Denny Guge says, “We guarantee that if you aren’t offended you will be entertained. It’s the filthiest holiday musical ever.” Directed by Michelle Kable with songs written by Dangerville, it promises to give Santa and Satan a boner.
