Keep Phoenix New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $10,000 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
Okay, so Phoenix doesn’t get snow. Boo-hoo. Who wants it anyway? Having to trudge through frozen water is not glamorous, pretty, or convenient. So get over it already.
Instead, we make our own traditions like luminarias. A desert path lined with the flickering glow from humble paper bags is just as gorgeous as a snow-dusted lawn. And, guess what? We don’t have to shovel luminarias to get to our car.
We win.
And we win on Saturday, December 18, when a local park offers an evening hike on trails decorated with the beautiful southwest holiday tradition.
If you’re a west-sider, head to the Pre Holiday Luminaria Walk at White Tank Mountains Regional Park, 13025 North White Tank Mountain Road in Waddell, where you’ll catch the same set-up from 7 to 9 p.m.
