Most folks awake from a night of unusual dreams feeling flummoxed at what one’s melon has imagined while they were catching 40 or more winks. For local artist Spencer Hibert, however, its time to grab a pen and start sketching whatever strange situations his brain has produced.

The local artist’s sleep-induced imaginings helped inspire his contributions to In Your Head and Under Your Bed, an eerie group exhibition exploring the nature of dreams and nightmares.

A total of ten artists — including sculptor Lindz Lew, fabric designer Anya Melkozernova, and painter Dain Quentin Gore – created and contributed kooky characters and weird works summoned forth from their subconscious. For instance, Hibert’s works include two-dozen customizable Meegee figures decorated in bizarre patterns and placed in a diorama based on scenarios he dreamt up.

Peep the artists’ dream theaters during the show’s opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 5, at Modified Arts, 407 East Roosevelt Street.
