Street Smart

There are few things in life that are universally appreciated. Beyond agreed-upon basic needs like food, water and shelter, it’s almost impossible to get a consensus on anything. Take art, for example. Some love it, some hate it, and some can’t navigate between surrealism and the Etch A Sketch.

In his exhibit at Lost Leaf, local artist J.W. Miller brings together the artful and the artless alike, by capturing the simple things we have in common from glasses of wine to music. “He has his own style that stands out from other local artists,” says Tato Caraveo, the bar and gallery’s resident booker and drink slinger. Caraveo describes Miller’s work as “urban scenery blended with broad brush strokes.”

Miller’s street-style inspired artwork features city dwellers drinking wine, sipping coffee, skateboarding, and visibly pondering the subtle truths in life.
