Like a deranged used car salesman in an ill-fitting suit, Del the Funky Homosapien is setting ticket prices so low on his tour that he’s practically giving them away! Actually, he is giving tickets away. The rapper, best known for his work with trip-hop’s Gorillaz and hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics, has always been a free-flowing, live-and-let-live sort of dude. He’s been known to (perhaps unwisely) give his music away. It all started when he gave his 2009 record, Funk Man (The Stimulus Package), away for free on his official website. Then, he used Radiohead’s pay-what-you-want method for 2010’s It Ain’t Illegal Yet. But, hey, we’re not going to complain. We love to get our Funk for free. Deltron himself is sort of a bargain hunter. In an interview with Spinner.com, he once guiltily admitted he wrote the Gorillaz’ “Clint Eastwood” with a How to Write a Hit Song book, which he bought with a coupon his mom clipped. See, kids? Extreme couponing can get you a lot of places, like selling 10 million copies of one record or landing a gig at Tempe’s Marquee Theatre.
