Nerd god Joss Whedon is busy making the highly anticipated, blockbuster Avengers film. Unfortunately for fans of the Buffy and Dollhouse creator, that means they’re in for a Whedon drought until his take on the Marvel superheroes isn’t due for release until summer 2012.
Lucky for them, Can’t Stop the Serenity is this weekend.
It’s a double screening of Whedon’s cult classic space western Serenity (the film continuation of his TV series Firefly) with a bonus viewing of his musical tragicomedy Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.
The Arizona Browncoats – a group of diehard Whedonites – host the event, which includes a costume contest and raffle. All proceeds from the event benefit women’s rights organization Equality Now and Kids Need to Read, which is based in Mesa.
