The whole teacher-turned-musician career path is well traveled. Musicians including Sheryl Crow, Sting, and Roberta Flack all started as teachers — and top Gene Simmons was even fired for teaching Spider-Man in lieu of Shakespeare.

We’ll admit that Bluhm’s story isn’t on par with The Demon’s, it is unique.

This laidback ranch hand gal transitioned from her job as an elementary school instructor into a songstress, after being discovered while singing an Allman Brothers song at a New Year’s Eve party.

Bluhm celebrates her humble roots in the music she creates with her backing band The Gramblers. Her powerful, soulful vocals croon nostalgic melodies that fall somewhere between country, Americana, and bluegrass. Some songs are reminiscent of Neko Case, while others hearken back to June Carter and Johnny Cash’s playful chemistry.
