Whether your experiences with poetry include wading through Walt Whitman or watching drama queen Judy Funnie, the beret-wearing beatnik sister on the cartoon Doug, chances are good that the literary art form seems more stuffy than fun.
The Distinguished Visiting Writers Series at Arizona State University might change your perspective. Poet Tony Barnstone opens the series with a question and answer session at the historic Piper Writers House.
“It is a very casual, intimate event,” says Tom McDermott, Piper’s communication coordinator. After Barnstone opens with a brief reading, the floor opens for attendees to ask about the craft of poetry writing and the scribe’s life.
