Since 1999, Huntington Beach’s Avenged Sevenfold has been on a tear. Emerging from the Southern California metalcore scene, the band firmly established itself as a force in mainstream metal, with an eclectic style that draws as much from hair metal theatrics as it does hardcore breakdowns. The band’s five studio albums have earned them big sales figures and accolades from hard rock fans (Affliction Clothing named Nightmare its album of the year), and the group has built a reputation on its live performances. The band puts on a hell of a show, even if snobby metal fans have tried to hate on the band since its step into the national spotlight. The band’s time on the road has helped solidify its fervent fan-base, but the vocalist M. Shadows has suggested the band will be taking time off after this tour to work on new music with drummer Arin Ilejay (who has the unenviable task of following Mike Portnoy and original drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan behind the drum kit), so now is the time for Avenged Sevenfold fans to “Seize the Day” and catch the band live in concert.
